New Gear: Fizik Vento shoes

The eye-catching coral/pink colour option of Fizik’s two new pairs of shoes is almost worth their inclusion alone, but happily there are also some updates in function to go with their aesthetics.

The Vento Proxy (shown top left) is Fizik’s new gravel race shoe, sitting a little below the top-tier Ferox and trading in a little weight and sole stiff ness (8/10 on Fizik’s scale versus the Ferox’s 10/10) in exchange for a drop in price.

It looks like a fair deal: the Proxy gains just 29g per shoe (326g vs 297g claimed, size 42) despite being much cheaper (based on US / UK / EU pricing, at least – AU pricing is yet to be confirmed at time of print).

And given that gravel rides often take in the occasional hike-a-bike, that more flexible sole might actually be welcome.

The upper is as techy as shoes get, blending a Boa Li2 dial with PU laminated mesh that Fizik says is breathable and flexible, yet tough enough when it comes to dealing with rocky surfaces.

The road-going Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave (shown bottom right) shoe is as similarly race-focused as the Proxy, but with an emphasis on extreme light weight.

It uses a material woven from nylon and thermoplastic polymer to create a net-like upper that Fizik says off ers excellent ventilation and plenty of suppleness, despite being non-stretch.

The Vento’s third-generation R3 carbon outsole has more ventilation holes to support that airy upper, but Fizik says new shaping makes it just as stiff at a lighter weight, contributing to a size 42’s incredibly light 204g claimed weight per shoe.

While both pairs’ coral/pink colour is undoubtedly striking, for those riders looking for something a little more inconspicuous, Fizik offers the Proxy in white and black alternatives, and the Powerstrap Aeroweave in white.

The shoes can be shipped internationally from Fizik’s global site for now, but keep an eye out for more details on local distribution in 2025.
