Magene is a much vaunted brand across a range of parts and accessories, and the new GR45 Pro wheels will only enhance that reputation. This sub-1,500g gravel wheelset will delight any rider, as will the 32mm external/25mm wide internal width of the relatively deep (for gravel standards) 45mm rim.
Such a design offers the rider aerodynamics as well as control, with the rim’s wide profile allowing lower tyre pressures and enhanced grip – especially when paired with 35c tyres and greater.
These wheels can be run with tubes or tubeless, and the rim bed has no drilled spoke holes, so there’s no need for rim tape. They come with tubeless valves, so the choice for most gravel riders will be clear – tubeless is the winner – but it’s nice to know tubes can be used in a pinch. No pun intended.
Cyclist tested a pair of Magene’s Exar Ultra road wheels in 2025 and were more than impressed with their stiff ness, control, low weight and, of course, price point. We expect elite performance out of these wheels at a competitive price that is tough to beat.
