The Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon 2024, held on October 13, was a fantastic day filled with cycling and fun. With around 6,000 cyclists hitting the streets, this year’s event really took things up a notch, especially with the introduction of the first-ever Cyclothon Carnival.
Event highlights
Cyclists had the chance to ride through some of Hong Kong’s most iconic spots, thanks to enhanced routes that made the experience even more exciting.
The event included six main cycling events, from competitive races to family-friendly rides. The 50 km ride was a standout, featuring a thrilling journey through four tunnels and over three bridges, including the scenic Sha Tin Heights Tunnel. For those opting for the 32 km route, the views from the Ting Kau Bridge were simply stunning.
In the competitive scene, Yip Shing-hei and Wu Wenmin took home top honours in the SHK Men’s and Women’s Opens , showcasing their skills against some tough competition. Plus, four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome was even in attendance!
The Cyclothon Carnival
One of the biggest draws this year was the Cyclothon Carnival at West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD). This carnival featured seven themed zones packed with activities for everyone from gourmet Asian treats to sports themed markets and active recovery zones. This carnival was all about bringing people together – cyclists and non-cyclists alike, creating a fun atmosphere that celebrated sports and community.
