New Gear: MAAP Alt_Road kit

Going off -grid opens riders up to all kinds of tricky situations, both on and off the bike. With that in mind, local brand Maap has updated its Alt_Road gravel collection.

‘We wanted to create kit that supports a range of adventures and excels not just during the ride, but after the journey ends too,’ says Ha Nguyen, senior designer at Maap.

Thus the Alt_Road Cargo bibshorts have a thigh pocket and three rear pockets, with open and zippered entries at the base of the bibstraps at the rear.

To off set long hours in the saddle, the thigh panels are more flexible than the sturdier contact panel, while Maap has changed the chamois’s foam density.

‘It’s now more resistant to compression and offers greater shock absorption,’ says Nguyen.

The Alt_Road Insulated Vest is a light and packable layer with a pullcord built into the hem so it can be loosened off when relaxing post-ride.

Front pockets are sewn into the ripstop fabric and the insulation material is Blue Certified and therefore environmentally sound.

Finally the LS Jersey has been revamped to make it lighter, less tight and more breathable for hot conditions, as requested by sponsored riders.

‘The merino is more “open” knit than in the previous long-sleeve jersey,’ Nguyen says.

‘The fibres in the fabric are less tightly packed together so air can pass more freely through the fabric.’
