Tested: Castelli Perfetto RoS 3

From the company that brought us the game-changing Gabba jacket in 2010 comes the Perfetto RoS 3, where ‘perfetto’ is ‘perfect’ in Castelli’s native Italian, and ‘RoS’stands for ‘rain or shine’.

Castelli has unveiled a brand-new fabric for this incredible jacket called Polartec AirCore, which is lightweight, breathable, windproof and water-repellent.

On trend, it’s 100% free from PFAS-based chemicals and engineered using recycled polyester.

The jacket is suitable for temperatures 4-14°C, with this huge variation in temperature possible because the fabric is as equally breathable as it is waterproof. All that overheating we’ve experienced using standard raincoats is a thing of the past thanks to the Perfetto RoS 3.

Not entirely wind or moisture-repellent, the jacket expels sweat from within, keeping you dry, warm and fresh throughout a ride.

These jackets are available in men’s and women’s race cuts, and we expect more AirCore technology from Castelli soon (and we’d be pumped to see it on knicks, gloves and shoe covers!).

In the wild

Wowowow – often textile companies fabricate marketing material (see what I did there?)… so when the promises are lived up to it’s an absolute treat.

I tried the Perfetto RoS 3 at the tail end of winter with temperatures from 3 degrees to 13 and it was sensational. It left me so dry and warm, with the only sweat building around the the pockets, presumably because of my phone in the pocket.

This “jacket” is only slightly heavier than a long-sleeve jersey and it made getting ready in the morning so quick. It also reduced my washing load (bonus!).

If you have the kind of cash Castelli is asking for, you need to make this jersey part of your kit. It really is a game-changer capable of many weather conditions and riding intensities…it may even make you okay to ride in the rain!
