Maxxis has recently released four improved versions of existing gravel tyres, all featuring its latest rubber compound, HYPR-X.
That name is a portmanteau of its low-rolling-resistance HYPR material, which is found on road tyres, and the MaxxSpeed compound that was developed alongside mountain bike legend Nino Schurter for maximum wet and dry traction.
HYPR-X is now incorporated into the brand’s Receptor, Reaver, Rambler and Ravagertyres, delivering a 19% increase in cornering traction and 25% lower rolling resistance compared with previous models of these tyres, according to Maxxis.
If you’re unfamiliar with the lineup, the Receptor is a semi-slick tyre; the Reaver is a lightweight ‘race tyre’ with a shallow tread; the Rambler is what Maxxis labels an all-purpose gravel tyre; and the Ravager is the best choice for loose, chunky gravel.
There is something in the Maxxis lineup for each terrain and riding style. Maxxis is drip feeding different models and sizes with the HYPR-X compound, so keep an eye out at shops near you for all the latest offerings.
