Following the launch of the supersized Wahoo Elemnt Ace at the end of last year, the tech manufacturer has now completed the overhaul of its well-established Bolt and Roam models, continuing the theme of bigger and brighter screens.
‘Consumers across all electronics are socialised into appreciating larger screens,’ says Cory Pittman, product manager at Wahoo. ‘We realise it’s not for everyone, however, which is why the Bolt remains compact relative to its competitors.’
The entry-level Bolt is the smallest and most straightforward Wahoo computer. Based on feedback from Wahoo’s Beta community, improvements for this third generation focus on the Bolt’s screen quality, user interface, 20-hour battery life, app integration and GPS connection.
‘Start-up times should now be around 60seconds in general,’ says Pittman. ‘The Bolt 3,Roam 3 and Ace are set up to receive location assistance files that help the unit get a faster GPS lock. Additionally, the mapping is more detailed, colourful, layered and easier to manipulate.’
Wahoo reserves a higher resolution and larger 2.8-inch screen for the Roam, which is touch sensitive and navigable using gloves. The Roam also gets a claimed 25-hour battery life and a built-in speaker to announce turns.
Designed to be paired with the updated head units is Wahoo’s Trackr Radar, a smart light that contains an accelerometer enabling it to work as a brake light, while it can also vary its flash pattern when it detects approaching vehicles.
