After 20 years making cycling apparel, Ekoï has released its first full carbon-soled road shoe, the C-4.
The French brand says the sole uses 100% unidirectional carbon composite for stiffness and efficient transfer of power, while its light weight helps contribute to a claimed 260g per shoe in size 42.
To keep the rider’s foot securely in place within the shoe, Ekoï has used a woven mesh for the upper. ‘The way the fibres are woven together creates a mesh with a particularly strong structure,’ says Ekoï’s footwear engineer, Raphael Dalle.
‘By using a mixture of TPU and polyester yarn we have created a fabric that has minimal stretch and holds the foot securely, while also being highly breathable.’
The C-4s feature two carbon/aluminium Atop dials to take care of fit adjustment and closure, which are connected to the mesh upper with heat-reinforced bonds to ensure their pressure is distributed evenly.
The tongue and heel are also heat-bonded for increased durability, and a slim rubber toe bumper aims to protect the front of the shoe from scuffs and scrapes.
