Cycling legend, Jens Voigt, closes his career with Trek. Scoring a commemorative bike from the manufacturer to celebrate.

Jens Voigt has been around for quite some time. At 41 years old, he is one of the oldest professionals in the business. Known as cycling’s funny-guy with the German-accent, Voigt has been a popular man over his career, with many teams who would be honoured to have him on their side for his final year on bike. Luckily for Trek, Voigt has decided to stay on and finish his lengthy career with the team currently known as RadioShack Leopard.

“I’m glad Trek and I got to an agreement for 2014. It’s been three crazy years for me on Trek, with a lot of highlights, and I’m happy that we can go on for another year,” said Voigt. “Looking at the young kids: I see the future. They are ready to spread their wings. But maybe I can close one more gap for them, or teach them something from my years of experience. I feel I still have some gas left in the tank, so I can’t wait for what’s coming!”

And the Trek team couldn’t be more excited. To celebrate, the US bike manufacturer has presented the veteran with a one-of-a-kind bike of his own. With Voigt’s idiosyncratic saying ‘Shut up legs’ and stage win titles stuck to the down tube, and the names of his six kids (yes, he has been a busy man) and wife plastered on the top tube, it couldn’t possibly belong to anyone else.

“There has seldom been a foot soldier like Jens Voigt, he is the ultimate hardman. He attacks, he works like a dog, he crashes – and he gets up and does it all again the next day,” said Trek Vice President Joe Vadeboncoeur. “Trek is honored to have Jens finish his career here.” Here, here!
