A name synonymous with racing rubber, tyre manufacturer Pirelli is bringing the PZero to Aussie roads. Cyclist gets the low down on the PZero Velo range.
‘Dangerous’ and ‘absurd’ marked the criticisms towards Pirelli’s involvement in this year’s Giro d’Italia. The controversy sparked by their sponsorship of a descending prize. It wasn’t the best way to signal a comeback to the sport. Comeback you say? Even the most ardent fans mightn’t realise Pirelli’s involvement dates back even further than the Corsa Rosa, they shod the rims of over half the peloton in the first ever Giro. Now they return with their PZero Velo tyres.
Any enthusiast of motorsport will recognise PZero, a favourite of Italophiles and racing pedigree, from Formula One to Superbike, that precious rubber is sliding over to bicycles. The PZero offering three options; Silver for road racing; Red for time trials; and Blue for the ‘four seasons’, we assume the all-weather trusty training tyre.
Apart from just enviable graphics, Pirelli are promising to bring over 110 years of knowledge and technology. Utilising their experience as sole supplier of F1 and longest running of Superbike, Johan Molenmaker, Sales Director at Pirelli, is certain “Australian cyclists [will] appreciate the outstanding grip, great handling and reliability of our new bicycle tyres.”
Cyclist will be waiting to see if the winning heritage continues into the World Tour, as for the riders, FE Sports will be distributing Pirelli’s PZero Velo range to retailers from August 2017.
