‘Encouraging our young riders on their road to success’
They say: Initially, the Club was known as Gold Coast Albert and Tweed Shire Cycling Club to reflect its origins, but quickly became known as CATS from taking the initial letters of the key words in the title. Late last year, we were proud to be awarded “Club of the Year” at the annual CQ awards dinner. Over the years, the Club has produced numerous outstanding cyclists many of whom are listed in our “Honour Roll” on our web site and include well known cyclist such as Sara Carrigan and Robbie McEwen.
Club cafe: With so many good café’s along the Gold Coast that satisfy members they find it impossible to choose just one!
Club charity: Members support a number of local charities including Gold Coast Careflight, Amy Gillett Foundation and Rotary GC100 to name a few.
Star riders: In February this year, Steven Storer won the QLD Masters Track Sprint and Time Trial Championships before competing at the Nationals held in Perth in April where he won two gold medals, a silver medal and sufficient points to claim the Champion of Champions Title and Jersey. Steven is a great inspiration to all our members and makes a significant contribution to the club by sharing his wisdom and experience with other riders at club training and encouraging our young riders on their road to success.
In her second year of competitive cycling, Katrin Garfoot is without a doubt our star rider and is currently one of the best female riders in the country. She is currently second on the aggregate NRS women’s standing. Another impressive female rider is 19 year old, Emily Roper who is presently holding the “youngest rider” classification at the Tour del Ardeche.
